Bulambuli's Maiden Court Open Day Successful

BULAMBULI: Court users thronged Bulambuli Magistrates Court for it is first-ever Court Open Day. Mbale High Court Senior Resident Judge, Hon. Lady Justice Susan Okalany, graced the day.

The Bulambuli Magistrate Grade One, HW Jullian Agwango, said as the pioneer Magistrate Grade One of Bulambuli she was happy to host an interaction where court users give feedback about court services.

The Judiciary Senior Communications Officer, Mr Solomon Muyita, reassured court users saying the Chief Justice had directed that each court should hold open days, at least once every year, to freely interact with court users to identify challenges in courts and explore solutions.

At same event, representatives of different Justice Law and Order Sector Institutions explained how their institutions work.

DPC Patience Baganzi, the District Police Commander noted that land wrangles and defilement top the crimes committed in the district. She urged residents to desist from taking the law into their hands but rather use the available structures to get redress.

Mr Siraje Wamai, the District Vice Chairperson thanked court for maintaining cordial relations with other stakeholders in the district. He urged local council leaders to sensitize communities about the court initiatives in place to enhance access to justice.

The Judge on her part urged all duty bearers in the justice system to have integrity.

"Representatives of JLOS institutions should be corrupt free. And if you are not corrupt declare it, so that public confidence can be restored."

Hon.Lady Justice Okalany said it was important for all duty bearers to serve the people."The reason the public offers bribes is because they are vulnerable and need a service."
